Renovation Inspiration for the Festive Season Break

Whether you’re redesigning your home for the perfect Christmas party, or you’re using the time off to build a brand new one, Regional Home Builders has all the inspiration you need.

After a year of hard work, you deserve to treat the family with a spacious living/dining room. Or perhaps you’re only after a new coat of paint to freshen up the bathroom. Whatever your needs, our design consultants have compiled some inspirational tips to give you the festive season you’ve been picturing all year.

A Living/Dining Dream

If you’ve got a big clan and it’s your turn to host a festive family event, then you’ll need plenty of entertaining space.

Our Regional Town Series caters to all kinds of floor plans, with sizes up to 250 square metres. Try the Raven 28, for example, with its living/dining/kitchen opening onto a quaint alfresco area.

By positioning your living room furniture just right, you can create an open space that welcomes all the cousins, grandparents, aunties and uncles.

Bifold Doors

Many of our designs can accommodate sliding bifold doors, and we highly recommend asking for them to complete your entertaining space.

Not only do they look great, but they also open up the doorway to your alfresco space and create a much larger area for your party.

If you opt for hardwood floors like many modern-day homes, timber bifold doors can complement this look to a tee.

While closed they can include almost floor-to-ceiling windows and are well-complemented by a few short indoor plants. To open them, simply unlatch and slide them away, effectively removing an entire wall of the home. Your visitors will hardly realise the doors exist while they’re folded off to the side. All they will notice is a beautifully open floor plan that ties seamlessly with the outdoors.

Make Space with Improved Storage

Sometimes the simplest way to prepare for a party is to clean up. You might be considering building a new home to give yourself a blank slate, when that canvas may be right under your feet.

There are so many ways to improve your storage solutions and give your existing home a new life.

Consider including a hollow bay window bench in your renovation, perfect for lounging in the summer sun while storing all those pesky kids’ toys.

You could also consult our kitchen designers about how to add more storage to your kitchen cupboards. Just when you thought you couldn’t possibly squeeze in another drawer, they might just find a way.

Finally, our designers love to build all kinds of nooks and crannies into your new home, so embrace conversations about your vision and find the solutions that will help keep your home clean.

With all of the clutter out of the way and in its place, you’ll be free to welcome the whole gang for the holidays.

Start in the Bathroom

While it might sound like a counterintuitive way to improve your entertaining capacity, renovating the bathroom can vastly improve the experience of all guests.

Not only is it a great talking point, but it keeps any ongoing work out of the way if you don’t quite meet your reno deadlines. More importantly, all of your guests will be using this room so it makes sense to give it a facelift.

Depending on your depth of renovation, bathrooms are a great place to start on a tighter budget. Being a smaller room, it simply requires fewer materials, but the impact of a nice bathroom gives your dollars a bit more value compared to a kitchen or dining room reno.

Of course, redesigning all of the plumbing and giving a bathroom a new orientation can push those costs higher, so have a chat with your designer and plumber to understand what’s within your budget.

Finally, bathroom renovations are a great place to start if you’re planning on renovating the entire home. It sets the tone for the rest of the home and gives you a smaller canvas to test out some ideas.
